PROVENCE

In Provence, three major appellations produce 96% of the region’s Appellation d’Origine Protégée (AOP) wines: Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, Coteaux Varois, and Côtes de Provence; with Côtes de Provence being the most prestigious and sought after of the three.

Côtes de Provence

Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

Coteaux Varois

•  Provence receives an exceptional amount of sunshine – up to 2,900 hours per year.
•  The landscape is mainly dry and hilly, but offers striking contrasts, including lush river valleys, limestone gorges, and rich wetlands.
•  The Climate of Côtes de Provence is predominantly Mediterranean (sunny, hot and dry, but is influenced by the sea.)
•  89% of the wine produced in this region is Rosé, with 7.5% Red and 3.5% White.

About
Anchor 1

Un soir, l’âme du vin chantait dans les bouteilles:
Homme, vers toi je pousse, ô cher déshérité,
Sous ma prison de verre et mes cires vermeilles,
Un chant plein de lumière et de fraternité!

One evening the soul of wine sang in the bottles:

Oh my dear disinherited, a wish for you tonight

In containing glass and rosy wax that throttles,

A song that’s full of friendship and light!

– from L’Ame du Vin,
Charles Baudelaire 1857
